WHO WE ARE

----------

PHIGA was established in 2017 as the educational arm of CenterPoint International Foundation, a Christian non-governmental organization founded by Mr. Anthony A. Weedor and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Fahn-Weedor.

Elizabeth, who is the founder and executive Director of the school, obtained her early education through the courageous and financial assistance of her dearest grandmother, Madame Maima Kai. Ma Maima, as commonly known, stood fearlessly against her male-dominant society to make education a priority for her granddaughters and a dedicated advocate for women in her district, Gola Konneh District.

Today, Elizabeth is continuing in her grandmother’s determination to give girls a Christian and an excellent education. She is devoted to help girls and women who are caught in similar traditional practices and worldviews in Liberia, and to also extend her ministry to other parts of Africa.

WHY PHIGA?

To answer this question, we must begin with an examination of what Christian education is – or more precisely what it is not.

Christian education is not merely a safe escape from the pollution of the world or to hide our children from a Postmodern culture. Education as a whole enhances a women’s or girl’s life. It prepares them to face the world or the society in which they live in every way possible (1 Peter 3:15). In the words of Professor James K.A. Smith of Calvin College:

“…Christian schools are called to be like Aslan in the Chronicles of Narnia: it’s not safe, but good. Instead of antiseptic moral bubbles, Christian schools are moral incubators that help students not only to see the glories of God’s creation but also to discern and understand the brokenness of this fallen world.”
